Revitalising historic buildings

Along with our custom and self build in Kent and other services, we undertake restoration and renovation of properties and we fully understand that revitalising such important buildings is a sensitive process requiring experience and expertise. As part of our design and build service we will manage the complete process and where necessary we will liaise with conservation officers, structural engineers, building control and a wide variety of specialist trades, each with their own input into the finished product.

Careful, considered conservation

As a design and build firm, we have a wealth of experience in restoring buildings, whether traditional timber frame or masonry structures. Where necessary, we work closely with historic building specialists, to provide detailed schedules and methodology for restoration. We recognise the importance of ensuring the restoration and conservation of large structural elements and smaller, more detailed elements such as mouldings and glazing bars is treated with the same level of thought and consideration.

Many of our restoration projects have also provided opportunity for extension and other improvements to add a new layer in the long history of these buildings.

Listed building & planning consents

Our design team and consultants at Vernacular Homes are able to work carefully with you to design proposals which can then be submitted for listed building and/or planning consents where required.

Presenting carefully thought through designs which respect the integrity and value of historic buildings is key to our success at gaining permission to restore and extend listed and historic buildings.

Others like to agree the detailed specification and programme and have limited input throughout the build.
