I have bats in my barn, how will this affect my prospects of conversion?
It is illegal to disturb bats or their roosts. As part of any application for a barn conversion VH will submit a protected species report by a specialist which will outline any protected species within the barn. The most common protected species found in barns are bats (e.g. Pipistrelle & Long-Eared) but Owls and Newts may also be found living in or near redundant barns.
It is unlikely to be a significant barrier to securing planning permission and VH working with a suitably qualified specialist will be able to present a mitigation strategy to take into account any protected species currently using the site and make reasonable alternative habitat provision where appropriate.
