Most of us have watched the renovation shows on television, where someone stands next to a disused, falling down, full of rubbish barn, and declares how beautiful it can be. And not everyone watching can share the vision – but we do!
As soon as we see a barn, our minds are firing up, thinking of all the possibilities, and when we work with our clients, we hear what their vision is, listen to how they want to live and design plans that blend the two and can be built within the various restrictions – budget is usually a big dictator.
But there are others too – planning requirements, access, location, orientation and topography – all factor into the design equation. We’ve worked on some amazing barns that have been on the brink of collapse, falling down or that had definitely seen better days.
Brought back to life, they are now beautiful homes that will stand for many years to come in their second life as home after being an agricultural workhorse.

This farmstead had 5 properties to convert and bring back to life – the CGI photo shows our ideas for turning the barn into a 5-bedroom home, with 4 bathrooms and WC, large lounge and open plan family kitchen diner with double height space – with exposed beams of course.

This home has six bath /shower rooms, a 30ft x 33ft kitchen with a 10m high vaulted ceiling, gallery, study, laundry room, boot room, family room, drawing room, and triple garage.
